Our Story

con·vive (vb.) – to feast & drink together

Some moments in life call for a toast. That's where Convive meets your cup.

One Simple Belief

The best conversations happen over a cup of coffee.

Convive started in 2012 with the belief that coffee can be a catalyst for connection in our community. The point of a great cup of coffee is the person across the table.

Fourteen years later, that belief looks like a coffee roastery on Butler Street in Lawrenceville, four neighborhood cafes across the Pittsburgh area, green coffee sourced seasonally, and every single bag roasted by us.

Yes, coffee-snob-level coffee, without the snobbery.

We sweat the sourcing, the roast curves, and the dial-in so you can focus on the meaningful moments of life that matter most.

Three Things We Don't Compromise

We roast everything ourselves

Every bag and every cup starts at the roastery. Small batches, roasted to the bean with attention to detail you can taste.

We source seasonally

Green coffee is a crop, not a commodity. Our single origins rotate with the harvests while the house blends stay steady.

Our people are the difference

Skilled, friendly, and genuinely curious about coffee. They'll know your order by Thursday and talk to you about the week's single origin.

Four minutes inside Pittsburgh's family-run roastery and cafes.

The People That Built Convive

There are many hands that have built our cafes in Pittsburgh. Moments of struggle, triumph, and everything in between. We celebrate it all, and are so thankful for the community that has made us who we are today.

The Roastery

Roasting coffee is an art and a science, and ours is in the hands of Paulo Meléndez. Paulo has been sourcing and designing every roast at Convive since 2019. He's a Q Grader — the certification for people who can taste a coffee and tell you exactly what's in it — and he grew up on his family's farm, Finca El Zapote in Acatenango, Guatemala, so he's stood at both ends of the supply chain: the harvest and the drum. He's a two-time Guatemalan National Barista Champion (2022 and 2025) and represents Guatemala at the 2026 World Barista Championship.

The machine is a Loring S7 Nighthawk: a smokeless roaster that uses one burner to roast the beans and burn off its own smoke, so the coffee never picks up anything but heat. We roast in closely watched, tailored small batches of 15 pounds or less, with every profile saved and repeated batch to batch — small enough that each one gets a person's full attention, not a timer's. We find the best coffees we can from importers who are respectable and accountable, roast each one a few different ways to find what you might like best, and get it to you fresh.

And yes, we drink a lot of coffee too.
